About me
I’m Thanise Silva, a Brazilian flutist, sound creator, composer, educator and music producer from Brasília. My work explores the dialogue between Brazilian musical roots and modern sound experimentation. On stage, I perform with flute, pedals, and effects, transforming the instrument into harmony, rhythm, and atmosphere. The music travels through different rhythms and textures from Brazil — it’s contemporary, but deeply connected to our cultural essence.
My story
I grew up listening to a lot of Brazilian music and, through it, fell in love with the interventions and contours of the flute, a passion I've been dedicating myself professionally to for 18 years. Through the flute, I can give voice to what I wish to express to the world.
I have a Master's degree in Music - Creative Processes in Music - from UnB (University of Brasília), where I also graduated in Music - Music Education. I also graduated in the technical level of Transverse Flute and Arranging from the Brasília School of Music (CEP-EMB), where I've been a teacher for 12 years. I combine my academic training with all my street experiences, such as choro and samba circles, stage performances, and late-night composing sessions with friends.
I've shared the stage with nationally and internationally renowned artists, including Dona Ivone Lara, Monarco da Portela, Nelson Sargento, Hamilton de Holanda, Altamiro Carrilho, Toninho Horta, and Ellen Oléria. I've participated in concerts, festivals, and over 40 album recordings, playing, arranging, and/or directing music. I've taught workshops and courses and performed throughout Brazil and in countries such as Germany, Belgium, France, Switzerland, and Lichtenstein.
My sound on the flute is my singing, and it is through it that I express my vision of the world, how it affects me, and how I want to affect it. My creative identity reveals the intersection between my family roots—from Pernambuco and Minas Gerais—and what I've built with my city, Brasília. It's in the effervescence of Brasília—the fruit of the encounter of so many Brazils—that I find spontaneity, freedom, and inspiration to create and express myself.
